Practical preparation. Stronger confidence.

Free resources for Registered Managers & Responsible Individuals

I've created these resources from the kind of support and short, practical revision I have found genuinely useful myself. You can know your role and still feel the nerves when an Ofsted interview is approaching. These are designed to help organise what you already know, build confidence and keep your own voice.

Choose the resource that fits where you are now. The E-Book + RM Interview Playbook combines therapeutic leadership reflection with focused Registered Manager interview preparation. The RI Interview Playbook focuses on governance, assurance, challenge, oversight and being able to explain your impact clearly.

A CLEAR CONSULTANCY SERVICE FOR CHILDREN'S HOME PROVIDERS

Independent External Supervision for Registered Managers

Independent, reflective supervision commissioned directly by providers who want to give their Registered Managers additional support, constructive challenge and protected space to think.

Previous Registered Manager + Current Responsible Individual

Having sat in the Registered Manager's chair myself, I understand the pressures that come with the role — balancing the needs of children, leading staff teams, managing risk, challenging professionals and carrying the responsibility that comes with running a home.

My approach is therapeutically minded, relationship-led and grounded in curiosity rather than criticism. I'm passionate about helping managers look beyond behaviour, understand what may be sitting underneath it and create cultures where children and staff feel safe, understood and supported.

A big part of my supervision approach is building confidence within Registered Managers. Not creating dependency or giving managers all the answers, but helping them recognise their own strengths, trust their professional judgement and develop the confidence to make difficult decisions, challenge when needed and lead their teams with greater conviction.

MY APPROACH Curiosity, not criticism.

Reflective support that strengthens the manager rather than taking the manager's role away from them.

You don't always need someone to tell you how to manage your home. Sometimes you need someone outside the noise who understands the role, asks the right questions and helps you find confidence in your own thinking.

Children's Home Incident Response, Recording & Guidance Toolkit

NOT YOUR STANDARD TRAINING. KNOWLEDGE IN PRACTICE.

Five dedicated incident toolkits. Staff training. Practical grab sheets. Step-by-step guidance for when you're not there.

As a Registered Manager, you can train your team, supervise their practice and set clear expectations — but you cannot physically be in the home every time something serious happens. This package has been created to give your staff structured training alongside practical grab sheets and printable guidance they can turn to if an incident happens when you are not there.

BUILT AROUND THE MOMENTS YOU CAN’T BE THERE Training first. Grab sheets on hand. Clear steps afterwards.

The purpose is simple: give your staff something reliable to work through so immediate safeguarding, recording, notifications, debriefs, plan reviews, follow-up and learning are less likely to be missed while you are away from the home.

Serious Incidents Missing From Home Physical Intervention Self-Harm Drugs, Alcohol & Contraband

Train them beforehand. Guide them when it happens. Staff can work through the training while things are calm, then keep the accompanying grab sheets readily accessible in the home. If something happens, they have a clear structure to help them consider what needs to happen now, what needs recording, whether a chronology is required, who needs informing, what the child needs afterwards, debriefs, restorative work, risk and plan reviews, outstanding actions and what needs handing over to management.

Built to give Registered Managers greater reassurance. The purpose is to help you feel as reassured as reasonably possible that when you are away from the home, your staff have been trained, know the expectations and have something physically available to guide them step by step — reducing reliance on memory and helping make sure important safeguarding, recording and follow-up actions are not overlooked.

Good incident management does not finish when everyone is safe or when the incident form is completed. The resources encourage the team to follow the whole journey: immediate safety → safeguarding response → recording → chronology → notifications → child support → debriefs → restorative work → risk and plan reviews → follow-up actions → management oversight → reflection and learning.

  • 5 in-depth, incident-specific staff training modules
  • Printable quick-reference grab sheets for all five incident areas
  • Step-by-step response, recording & follow-up guidance
  • Chronology, notification & professional-contact prompts
  • Child and staff debrief guidance
  • Risk, plan review, restorative work & learning prompts

They have the training. They have the grab sheet. They have the steps.

CLEAR BEFORE YOU BUY

A few useful things to know.

Do the toolkits replace my organisation's policies or professional judgement?

No. FCC resources are practice-support tools. They should sit alongside current legislation, statutory guidance, individual plans, risk assessments, organisational procedures and case-specific professional advice.

What's the difference between the £99 Incident Toolkit and £149 Complete Package?

The £99 Incident Toolkit focuses on preparing staff to respond, record, follow up and learn from five significant incident areas. The £149 Complete Package includes that toolkit and adds FCC's leadership and manager-development resources, giving you support for both the team and the Registered Manager leading them.

Can a provider commission external supervision for its Registered Manager?

Yes. External supervision can be commissioned by providers on a regular or ad-hoc basis, creating independent reflective space for leadership, safeguarding, professional challenge, manager confidence and development.

ABOUT FORSHAW CARE CONSULTANCY

Experience from inside children's residential care.

I'm Damon Forshaw, founder of Forshaw Care Consultancy, with over 11 years' experience within children's residential care.

Having worked directly with children, staff teams and managers before progressing into Registered Manager and Responsible Individual roles, I understand the realities of running a children's home — not just what good practice should look like on paper.

My approach is relationship-led, therapeutic and grounded in curiosity. I believe strong homes are built through strong relationships, confident leadership, honest reflection and cultures where people feel supported enough to learn, but accountable enough to maintain high standards.

My aim is simple: support the people caring for children to feel more confident in what they do, understand why they are doing it and create safer, warmer and more therapeutic homes.
